Kalin Fisher, M.D.
First State Orthopaedics is excited to announce that Dr. Kalin Fisher performed the first endoscopic spine surgery in the state of Delaware, at First State Surgery Center, utilizing cutting-edge technology from Arthrex, a global leader in orthopaedic implant design.
NEWARK, DE. March 4, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -First State Orthopaedics, a leading Orthopaedic and Spine Center is excited to announce the expansion of its minimally invasive spine surgery program by introducing endoscopic spine surgery to patients. This advanced technology enables surgeons to provide patients with a state-of-the-art alternative for spine care, offering improved precision, faster recovery times, and reduced postoperative discomfort.
The newly developed endoscopic spine surgery system by Arthrex provides surgeons with improved visualization and high-definition video from within the spinal canal during spinal decompression surgery. This allows surgeons to treat common conditions such as spinal stenosis and disc herniations with ultra minimally invasive approaches.
“I think now, more than ever, is a super exiting time in spine surgery. This technology allows us to treat the same conditions we have been for years, but now by making a tiny incision, smaller than the width of a fingernail. I’m excited we were able to bring this to our patients here at First State Orthopaedics and to the great state of Delaware.”
“My goal is always to perform the most minimally invasive surgery possible for patients. Endoscopic spine surgery brings that precedent to a whole new level. The technology allows us a make an incision smaller than a centimeter and get straight down to the spinal canal, essentially eliminating the need for muscle and soft tissue dissection. There is less bone removal needed with this technology, as well. These two components, combined, significantly decrease postoperative pain and speed up recovery.”-Dr. Kalin Fisher
Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery: A New Era in Spine Care
The adoption of endoscopic spine surgery technology by First State Orthopaedics offers multiple benefits for patients, including reduced muscle and tissue trauma, decreased postoperative pain, accelerated recovery and shorter hospital stays.
Traditional spine surgery involves making an open incision and splitting muscles apart, in order to gain access to the spinal canal. In contrast, endoscopic technology allows the procedure to be performed through a much smaller incision and eliminates the majority of soft tissue dissection, allowing for faster healing and quicker recovery.
Endoscopic spine surgery is ideal for treating conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica, and other degenerative spine issues. By utilizing an endoscope, less than one centimeter in diameter, the procedure significantly reduces the risk of infection and minimizes damage to muscles and surrounding tissues. As a result, patients can often return to normal activities much sooner than with traditional surgery.
