Matthew A. Handling, M.D.
For those of you that do not know me, please let me take a
second to introduce myself, I am Matthew Handling, M.D. I grew up in
Newark, Delaware. I attended the
University of Delaware and Jefferson Medical College. I am a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon,
and I hold a certificate of added qualification in Sports Medicine. I joined First State Orthopaedics in 2008 and
I currently see patients in Newark, Smyrna, and Dover. My practice encompasses the treatment of
sports injuries, arthritis, and fracture care.
One of the most common Orthopaedic injuries is a broken
bone. A broken bone is the same as a
fractured bone. There are multiple ways
to describe a fracture or break. It can
be a clean break or broken in multiple pieces.
Fractures can occur around a joint or in the middle of the bone. Each fracture is unique depending on the age
of the patient, location of the fracture, and how separated the bones are from
each other. Luckily most fractures can
be treated in a cast or a brace depending on the body part. Some fractures will need surgery to get the
bones to line up anatomically.
At First State Orthopaedics we know that fractures can lead
to time away from sports or work. No one
plans on a broken bone when they play sports or go for a bike-ride, but
injuries can happen. We will work hard
to get you an appointment as quick as possible.
First State Orthopaedics can handle fractures in all age groups. Our in-office Xray’s help to fully evaluate
your injury in a timely fashion. The
training that an Orthopaedic Surgeon receives during their residency allows
them to be able handle nearly all fractures.
Orthopaedic Trauma surgeons and Hand surgeons have added training in
taking care of the most complex fractures.
If you or a family member has sustained an injury, call First
State Orthopeadics and we can get you an appointment ASAP to treat your injury
and get you back on the road to recovery.
