Current Opportunities
- Respond to incoming calls from FSO schedulers to post procedures.
- Print and fax demographic sheets from FSO & FSSC systems
- Verify patient’s surgical procedure to ensure accuracy
- Collect and confirm all History and Physicals, Pre-op work and consents are received.
- Act as primary contact for surgical patients and respond to telephone inquires.
- Prepare surgical charts and verify records for completeness
- Copying of records: anesthesia questionnaires, reconciliation forms, pre-op info.
- Assist with patient check in as needed
- Provide daily surgery and procedure counts for the month
- Ability to interface with support departments and articulate issues and concerns.
- Interact with a variety of personalities and situations that require tact, judgment, poise and professionalism.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality.

First State Orthopaedics is looking for a Full-Time Certified Professional Medical Coder for the Newark, DE office to assist with audits and patient account job duties.
Responsibilities for Certified Professional Medical Coder include:
- Assign codes to diagnoses and procedures, using ICD (International Classification of Diseases) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes
- Ensure codes are accurate and sequenced correctly in accordance with government and insurance regulations
- Follow up with the provider on any documentation that is insufficient or unclear
- Communicate with other clinical staff regarding documentation
- Search for information in cases where the coding is complex or unusual
- Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy
- Review the previous day's batch of patient notes for evaluation and coding
- Ensure that all codes are current and active
Qualifications for Certified Professional Medical Coder include:
- Associate's Degree in Medical coding or successful completion of a certification program
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology
- Excellent typing and 10-key speed and accuracy
- Commitment to a high level of customer service
- Familiarity with ICD-10 codes and procedures
- Solid oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of medical jargon and anatomy preferred
- Able to work independently
Reports To: Accounts Receivable Supervisor
Position Objective: The medical coder reviews, analyzes, and codes diagnostic and procedural information that determines insurance payments. The primary function of this position is to evaluate ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS coding for reimbursement.
Position Requirements: High School Diploma. Two years of medical/surgical coding experience using ICD-9-CM or equivalent combination of education and experience. CCS, CCS-P or CPC certification preferred. Good typing, communication and computer skills.

Job Title: Medical Records Clerk
Job Description: The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for
processing and distributing electronic faxes, electronic filing and scanning,
preparation of interoffice satellite bags for distribution, requesting charts
from storage vendor electronically and processing mail.
Preferred Skills:
High School Diploma required. Good communication and computer skills and a
good working knowledge of general medical terminology. Ability to interface with support departments
and articulate issues and concerns. Experience with Next Gen EPM and EMR
systems and DHIN a plus.
Job Description: The Patient Account representative
is responsible for reconciling discrepancies and collecting on delinquent
accounts. Presents a positive image to
supporting staff members and patients at all times.
Preferred Skills: High School Diploma or Associates
Degree in related field, previous experience in healthcare collection/billing,
excellent communication and computer skills, good working knowledge of medical
terminology CPT and ICD-10 coding.
Ability to maintain good working relationships with all co-workers,
patients and general public. Knowledge of state laws and statutes. Understanding of legal process involving
medical claims. Understanding and react
to developing trends in healthcare reimbursements.
Job Title: Medical Assistant
Job Description: The Medical Assistant performs clinical
and administrative duties under the direction of the physician. Duties may include taking and recording vital
signs, interview patients and record medical histories, preparing patients for
examination, preparing injections, assistance in cast room and explaining
treatment procedures, medications, and physicians’ instructions to patients.
Preferred Skills:
Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program; certification as a Registered Medical Assistant and CPR certification. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality. Ability to make independent decisions using critical thinking, problem solving and perform responsibilities under stressful situations. Meet technical standards. Must be capable of working variable schedules. This is a full time position with flexible hours.
Preferred Skills: High School Diploma required. A minimum of one year work experience in a medical office setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, patient service focus.
